University of Ilorin can only admit 12,730 students out of 114,700 students that applied to the institution for the 2014/2015 academic session.
Addressing fresh students of the institution during the matriculation ceremony on Monday, 22nd of November, 2014, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, in his speech titled “Arise and Fly”, urged the students to make good use of the opportunity given to them.
The Vice Cchancellor gave the breakdown of admitted students to include 80 international students and 12,650 indigenous students, making an average of 11 per cent of the total number of those that applied.
He also said that their admission into the university was an indication that they had the potentials to be among the best in life.
Professor Ambali assured them that they had the potentials to excel higher in the university if they do what is right and shun what is wrong, adding that everyone with native idea and good conscience knows what is right and wrong.
He advised them to believe in God and believe in themselves, saying that anything done without God is void and counter- productive.
He also admonished them to strictly adhere to the university rules and regulation to avoid having conflict with the law.
The university boss, warned the students not to join any unregistered groups and association such as cultism, adding that such will lead to their expulsion.
